SUMMARY
Under immediate supervision, responsible for performing a variety of apprentice level duties involved in the operation, maintenance, and repair of utility distribution or collection systems, equipment, and facilities.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
· Incumbent will be assigned to work in one of the three utility divisions and will work generally within that division to test, maintain, inspect, repair, and clean the various utility pipes, fittings, inlets, basins, valves, or other appurtenances associated with the utility.
· All disciplines may involve emergency call-out or overtime repair work, working in various weather conditions, at various times of the day/night.
· Perform general maintenance and cleanup duties around facilities.
· Operate a variety of vehicles, tools, and equipment used in the operation and maintenance of utility distribution and collection systems.
· Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
· Assist in testing, maintaining, and repairing pumps, chlorinating equipment, valves, meters, gauges, and electrical and gas water-pumping equipment; operate SCADA/telemetry system.
· Obtain and record water and pumping levels.
· Assist in obtaining water quality samples, testing, and reporting of sample results.
· Perform routine daily inspections of all water storage facilities and assist in identifying improper functioning of equipment.
· Assist in system repairs, including underground pipe repair/replacement, service line connections, leak detection and repair.
· Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Experience: One year of experience performing construction related activities.
Certifications/Licenses:
· Valid Utah Driver’s License.
· Possession of, or ability to obtain a Utah commercial driver's license within 1 year of employment in the position.
· Possession of, or ability to obtain Grade I Water Operator certificate within 1 year of employment.
· Possession of, or ability to obtain Traffic Control Flagger, Trench Shoring, and Confined Space certificates within 6 months of employment (training typically provided by City). Director may grant extension if training isn’t available during 6-month period.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
· Basic tools, materials, and equipment used in construction related activities.
· Safe driving and operation principles and practices of vehicles.
· Basic road etiquette and defensive driving.
· Basic record keeping principles.
Skill with:
· Operating a wide variety of equipment and tools used in water distribution system operation, maintenance, and repair in a safe and effective manner.
· Using basic tools, materials, and equipment used in construction related activities.
· Operating a motor vehicle safely.
Ability to:
· Understand and follow oral and written instructions, receive specific direction on a job site.
· Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
· Understand the importance and possess basic record keeping abilities.
· Follow and adhere to occupational hazards and standard safety precautions necessary in maintenance and repair work.
· Work harmoniously in a team environment.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, climb, push, pull, and lift up to 100 lbs., and wear protective apparel; exposure to heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, electrical hazards, and traffic hazards. Ability to travel to different sites and locations; availability for on-call, stand-by, and emergency call. Availability for on-call, stand-by, and emergency call duties.
