Job Description

We seek someone who has training or is willing to undergo an apprenticeship to tend various machines and equipment used in binding books, periodicals, and pamphlets and assembling related printed materials.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure items are packed and labeled correctly for local and non-local shipping.
  • Ability to operate all bindery equipment provided safely, efficiently, and appropriately.
  • Regularly review work to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Follow workflow and produce work as determined by the Production Scheduler.
  • Review customer’s orders and due dates.
  • Produce quality work. Quality is reviewed before packaging to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Perform machine checks and report any problems or necessary repairs to management.
  • Feed covers, signatures, and sheets into various machines for collating, stitching, trimming, folding, ruling, stapling, roughing, indexing, gluing, and perforating operations.
  • Remove, stack, and pack printed material in various stages of completion as it accumulates on the machine's delivery table.
  • Examine stitched, collated, bound, and unbound publications to ascertain the pages are bound in numerical or folio order according to sample copy and for such defects as imperfect bindings, ink spots, torn, loose, and uneven pages, and loose and uncut threads.
  • Insert illustrated pages, extra sheets, and collated sets into catalogs, periodicals, directories, pocket portfolios, or loose-leaf binders. Insert sheets and apply labels to envelopes or periodicals by hand or machine.
  • Wrap product in plastic, using shrink-wrapping, pack products in boxes, and tape lids of boxes shut.
  • Record daily production.
  • Clean and organize the work area around machines.
