PS Nurse Practitioner


Job Summary


This position is located in Salt Lake City, Utah at https://healthcare.utah.edu/huntsmancancerinstitute/.


This position will provide care to Neuro-Oncology patients primarily those with primary brain tumors and metastatic spread to the brain. The Advanced Care Provider NP will work in collaboration with the attending physician to evaluate, examine, manage, and develop treatment plans for patients with tumors involving the central nervous system. The role is primarily based in the outpatient neuro-oncology clinic. There will also be inpatient consultations that are part of the role.

Responsibilities


Responsibilities:

• Assesses the physical condition of a group of patients by performing physical examinations and obtaining medical histories.

• Formulates the medical plan and prognosis based on patient's condition.

• Assist attending physician by presenting, discussing, and implementing treatment plans.

• Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess the patient's clinical problems and health care needs.

• Performs selected invasive procedures for therapeutic and/or diagnostic reasons within scope of validated competence.

• Initiates and/or recommends medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy.

• Complies with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of patient care. Initiates and maintains required records and legal documents.

• Participates in quality improvement activities.

• Counsels patients, families and significant others about health and illness, and promotes health maintenance.

• Evaluates, plans, implements, and re-evaluates the care of individuals requiring emergency measures.

• Understand treatment protocols for brain cancers.

• Be an advocate for identifying and enrolling patients that qualify for currently available clinical trials.

• Communicate well with office staff, physicians, and patients to provide timely, accurate patient care.

Minimum Qualifications


Required

Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.

Preferred

Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.

Utah State prescriptive privileges.

Licensure is obtained by completing a Master's degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master's degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.

UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.
