Job Description

The Paving Foreperson is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the highway/asphalt, utility, grade, crusher crews, etc. This position will primarily perform supervisory duties, but on rare occasions may assist with general laborer and equipment operation tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates daily work activities, job site organization, reading of plans, etc.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of job specifications and operating procedures.
  • Understand production needs and maintain contact with the asphalt plant and trucking dept.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of job specifications and operating procedures.

  • Supervises and schedules work crews. 
  • Organizes job site goals, timelines, and budgets.
  • Be aware of conditions that may affect continuing operations (i.e., weather, safety, etc.).
  • Assists crew members with job site duties.
  • Train the assigned crew; plan, assign and direct work; conduct performance appraisals (when required); reward and discipline the crew members; address complaints and resolve problems.
  • Ensure projects/job sites are operating in a safe manner.
  • Ability to perform strenuous work in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform all job duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to perform work in daytime and nighttime conditions.
  • Orders required supplies and materials.
  • Drive to various job site locations.
  • Assists with general laborer duties as needed, which may include shoveling, laying asphalt, installing pipes, crusher maintenance, and other tasks as required.
  • Assists with heavy equipment operation, if trained, as needed at job site locations.
  • Maintaining time and materials records necessary to complete daily job costing
  • May be subject to drug testing, medical exams and physical agilities testing.


Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred

Experience

  • 5-10 years of related asphalt paving experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.
