Job Description

The Principal Hydrometallurgical Engineer position will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and overseeing processes for the extraction and separation of critical minerals. In addition, they will be tasked with providing conceptual and specialty unit process technical skills to support our clients. The position will help develop other process engineers to further their technical skills, provide technical training for both our in-house process engineers and external client technical contacts as needed, and be tasked with helping identify and develop business opportunities for Anvil. Technical skills and ability to interact effectively with our clients will help obtain further business and solidify our relationships. 

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of staff technical capabilities, staying updated on emerging technologies and trends in mineral extraction/hydrometallurgical engineering.
  • Work directly with clients and front-line operations staff at operating plants to identify optimization and engineering opportunities, then further develop into projects
  • Assist in developing process engineering scope of work and project design basis with clients
  • Interact with Anvil project teams to develop and support projects
  • Participate in meetings with the client and project team to establish project objectives and to coordinate and/or resolve design problems
  • Review detailed project design for technical accuracy, compliance and feasibility to governing codes and client requirements
  • Coordinate and communicate with the Resource Manager for staffing/development/training needs
  • Responsible for using company software tools to report on work status, forecasting, and schedule for projects with process scope
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers

HYDROMETALLURGICAL SPECIFIC REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • Develop and optimize processes for the extraction and separation of critical minerals, focusing on technologies such as leaching, solvent extraction, ion exchange, and crystallization.
  • Experience in the hydrometallurgical field related to metal extraction from ore bodies.
  • Strong technical background with chemical analysis methods such as titration and experience using analytical instruments and techniques.
  • Experience in FEED, project scoping, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies related to metal extraction.

Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • Must be familiar with multiple hydrometallurgical process operations, troubleshooting, and small project execution
  • Must have a general knowledge of company, client, and industry codes, specifications, and standards
  • Must have detailed understanding of typical hydromet project front end loading and detailed design phase engineering
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, working with internal project discipline and external engineering and operations staff, must be comfortable contacting new clients
  • Supervisory/leadership experience
  • Ability to estimate, schedule, and develop project scope
  • Proficient with computerized project management and reporting tools
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced work environment with multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Capable of some travel and remote site assignments.
  • Applicants must be able to obtain a TWIC card.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • 8 to 25-years proven industrial experience in extractive metallurgy and minerals processing including solvent extraction, leaching, roasting, membrane-based separations and filtration, crystallization and precipitation, electrochemical processes.
  • PE preferred but not required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to sit/stand, type, and perform computer work for long periods of time.
  • Frequent use of hands/fingers for computer entry and answering phones.
  • Able to perform occasional bending, lifting, and reaching.
  • Must be able to lift 15 lbs. if necessary.
  • Field trips to job sites (local and/or remote), with travel and remote site assignments.
