Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Engineering Manager, builds, validates, installs, maintains and repairs HORIBA’s Process Instruments brand of Raman equipment; assists with customer support functions; maintains in-house repair and testing facilities.

Responsibilities

1.   Installs, repairs, and maintains HORIBA’s Process Instruments brand of Raman products at customer sites; performs in-house repairs of defective customer equipment.

2.   Maintains in-house repair facilities, including calibration, repair, and maintenance of Raman spectroscopy analyzers, maintaining in-house test equipment, etc.

3.   Provides technical assistance to customers and HORIBA’s Process Instruments departments, including parts and technical question research, and assisting with Requests for Quotations.

4.   Assists with the construction and validation of products, including wiring analyzer boxes, setting up computers, and wiring I/O and AC circuits.

5.   Conduct FAT (Factory Acceptance tests) with the customer before shipping.

6.   Prepare Field Service Reports with sufficient detail for customer invoicing, warranty charges, labor and materials charges, and policy.

7.   Create and modify electrical schematics and panel layout drawings using AutoCAD.

8.   Interpret technical specifications and translate them into electrical control designs.

9.  Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing to ensure accuracy of drawings for production and field use.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a technical area such as an Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Engineering degree or equivalent. Requires knowledge of electronics repair, ability to troubleshoot to component level and electronic test equipment. Knowledge of analyzers typically found in refineries or chemical plants. Theory of operation, set-up, calibration, repair, diagnosing faults, etc. Basic knowledge of computer programming, Microsoft products and MATLAB. Background knowledge of spectroscopy and its principles is a plus. The position also includes responsibilities for generating and updating AutoCAD drawings.

The position often requires work beyond a normal workday or workweek. Must be able to travel, both domestically and internationally. Must be able to drive an automobile and possess a valid driver’s license; must be able to obtain a passport.

1.   Ability to effectively and professionally deal with customers and co-workers.

2.   Ability to work with little or no direct supervision.

3.   Ability to efficiently and accurately assemble, validate, perform installations and repairs on Horiba equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Standing, walking, sitting

Must be able to stand (monitoring and adjusting equipment, etc.) walk (walking to various areas of customer sites, etc.) and sit for extended periods of time (Customer Support Line duty, driving to customer sites, sitting on airplanes for extended periods).

Lifting, carrying, Pushing, pulling

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted (packages, components, test equipment, etc.). Must be able to push and pull heavy objects (cabinets mounted on wheels, gas cylinders, etc.)

Climbing, balancing

Must be able to climb stairs and ladders as required to perform assigned tasks involving equipment located in remote areas (climbing and balancing on ladders to install and maintain suspended equipment, climbing stack ladders, accessing equipment penthouses, pits, etc.)

Twisting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending

Must be able to spend extended periods of time in awkward positions (working in confined spaces, inside cabinets, in crawl spaces, in pits, under computer floors, etc.)

Reaching, handling

Must be able to use hand tools and test equipment, operate equipment, use telephones and computers, etc.

Speaking, hearing

Must be able to assist customers over the telephone, meet with customers to discuss work being performed, participate in company meetings, etc.

Vision

Must be able to drive an automobile, visually monitor displays on test instrumentation, equipment, computers and the ability to identify color bands on electrical components.

Must be able to review Horiba Process Instruments documentation and make recommendations for procedural improvements. 

III.           Incumbent typically has a minimum of five years’ experience repairing and maintaining all Horiba Process Instruments products at an expert level. In addition to meeting the qualifications stated in I and II above, must be able to assist in developing recommended parts lists, procedures and standard maintenance contracts for an assigned product line. Must be able to provide advanced training and technical assistance.
