PennyWise Property Management might be just the place for you. We're looking for a Staff Accountant with experience and passion for Real Estate to join our team and oversee our complex real estate network while helping make critical financial decisions that drive our business forward.

You're going to help with everything from acquisition to disposition. Reconciling income and expenses for dozens of commercial properties, managing the balance sheet of numerous holding companies, lining up distributions to hundreds of investors, and helping to underwrite our next acquisition. This isn't your typical accounting role - you'll be building financial systems that scale with our growth.

We run on EOS and are building out our finance seat - you'll start with core accounting functions and quickly expand into investor distributions, capital calls, acquisition underwriting, and portfolio performance analysis.

Responsibilities

Weekly responsibilities:

  • Bill approval and payment processing - Review and approve vendor invoices and property expenses
  • Accounts receivable monitoring - Track tenant payments and manage outstanding balances

Monthly responsibilities:

  • Bank reconciliations - Reconcile all bank statements across multiple properties and entities
  • Journal entries - Transfer AppFolio Activity into QuickBooks
  • Financial Tracking - Maintain mortgage statements and depreciation schedules
  • Transaction processing - Document and verify acquisitions, dispositions, and lending activities

Quarterly responsibilities:

  • Investor distributions - Provide insights and calculations for quarterly investor distributions
  • Capital management strategy support - Analyze capital requirements across the portfolio
  • Financial reporting - Create balance sheets, P&L statements, and portfolio performance reports
  • CAM Reconciliation - calculate prorations to ensure year end accuracy

Ongoing projects:

  • Detective work - Investigate and resolve discrepancies across multiple properties and entities
  • Process improvement - Help build and refine accounting policies as we scale
  • Audit support - Review and substantiate transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Budget preparation - Assist with property-level budget development
  • System management - Maintain QuickBooks, manage data backups, and ensure financial data security
  • Underwriting - Help position the team for long term success


Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Real Estate Accounting experience required 
  • Expertise with journal entries for acquisitions/dispositions
  • Strong GAAP knowledge and accounting fundamentals
  • Experience with QuickBooks and Excel
  • Accuracy and attention to detail with numbers and financial data
  • Month-end/year-end close process experience
  • Strong communication skills to work effectively with the team
  • Solution-oriented thinking with a positive mindset and attitude

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience with CAM reconciliations
  • Familiarity with AppFolio property management software
  • Knowledge of preparing books for Tenant-in-Common structures
