The Maintenance Technician reports to the Engineering & Maintenance Manager and provides production line maintenance coverage, preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment, and training support for operators. The Maintenance Technician keeps the line equipment in top condition to support production needs, actively participates in the company Continuous Excellence including participation in operational reviews and problem-solving initiatives, and supports Quality Management Systems activities and processes
· Complete training on, and develop proficiency in setting up, operating and servicing automated packaging machinery.
· Execute preventative maintenance program and provide electronic, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic service to assigned production equipment such as automated packaging machinery, boiler, in-line pasteurization, air compressors, chiller, conveyance, RO water system, clean-in-place (CIP) system, and gearboxes.
· Troubleshoot packaging machines and resolve mechanical, electrical, and programming issues.
· Communicate effectively with management and operators to resolve technical issues.
· Establish a positive and professional relationship with co-workers.
· Document pertinent technical information to facilitate an ongoing maintenance record.
· Proactively learn new components and design principles as they are introduced.
· Comply with all safety policies and procedures.
· May be required to operate equipment/machinery when needed.
· Provide training and teach best practices to other technicians and machine operators.
· Must have a two-year technical degree in machine automation or a related field such as Mechatronics, Robotics, Fluid Power, Aeronautics Maintenance, or Industrial Maintenance, or a high school diploma and two years of demonstrated work experience in the packaging manufacturing industry or a related technical field.
· Must be able to comply with safety regulations, follow procedures, and maintain clean and orderly work areas, and be quality focused.
· Must be able to diagnose problems on equipment including replacing and repairing parts, testing, and making adjustments to keep equipment running.
· Must be able to perform scheduled and unscheduled repairs on production equipment.
· Must be able to detect faulty operations, equipment wear, and defective material and report findings to the Engineering and Maintenance Manager in a timely manner.
· Must be able to read and follow blueprints, machine drawings, and electrical drawings.
· Must be able to use a variety of equipment and hand tools, ohm and voltage meters, infrared equipment, strobe tachometer, etc…
· Must be willing to learn and teach other technicians best practices.
· Must be able to organize time well, complete tasks, and report to management on findings.
· May be required to travel to domestic/international vendors for training and factory acceptance tests for new equipment.
· Must be dependable and honest.
· Must have excellent communication, both verbal and written.
· Must be proficient in the use of a laptop computer and related software.
· Must be proficient in English.
· Must have a good mechanical and electrical background in a manufacturing or production environment, preferably the food or dietary supplement contract manufacturing industry.
· Preferred candidates will have knowledge of automated machine controls.
· Preferred candidate will have a knowledge of FDA regulations and Good Manufacturing Practices lean manufacturing methodology.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, climb stairs, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand; use hands to finger; handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; taste or smell; and talk or hear. The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and depending on the area assigned may regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. In this position, the employee will regularly work with and around others; in a wet and/or humid environment; in areas of high noise level; and around mechanical, electrical, and pressurized equipment.
