Job Description

The UAV Systems Technician will be responsible for the assembly, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of UAV systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with UAV hardware and software, possess strong problem-solving skills, and be comfortable working with Linux command line interfaces for system diagnostics and configuration.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, configure, and test UAV systems, ensuring they meet operational requirements.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on UAV hardware, including motors, sensors, and communication systems.
  • Operate UAVs in test environments and assist in field operations as needed.
  • Use Linux command line tools for system diagnostics, file management, and basic networking tasks.
  • Debug and troubleshoot software issues using diagnostic tools and logs.
  • Debug and troubleshoot hardware issues using electrical measurement bench top equipment.
  • Work with development teams to install and test firmware, software updates, and new features.
  • Assist in configuring communication links and sensors, ensuring proper integration with UAV systems.
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance, troubleshooting, and test results.
  • Follow safety protocols and industry best practices in all aspects of UAV operation and maintenance.


Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of core electrical engineering theory and practical application required 
  • U.S. citizenship required due to work on Department of Defense projects.
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent.
  • Degree in electronics, robotics, or related field preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills for both hardware and software issues required.
  • Previous experience with troubleshooting electronic and/or electro-mechanical systems required.
  • Tinkerer, tech hobbyist or strong interest in personal projects preferred.
  • Experience with UAV systems or robotics hardware is a plus.
  • Basic soldering skills required.
  • Experience with multimeters and power supplies.
  • Knowledge of proper PCB handling techniques and ESD sensitive devices required.
  • Familiarity with flight controllers, sensors, and communication protocols (e.g., MAVLink) is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of Linux command line, including file system navigation, permissions, and basic scripting.
  • Basic understanding of networking (IP addresses, routing) is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Team oriented. Able to work productively and successfully on a small team.


Additional Information

Work Environment:

  • Primarily working in a lab and test facility environment, with occasional field testing.
  • May require lifting of heavy equipment up to 50 lbs.
