Job Summary


The University of Utah Campus Store is seeking an Associate Accountant, who will work directly under the Accounting Supervisor of A/P to ensure accurate and timely processing of payments to vendors, maintaining financial records, and supporting the financial operations of the Campus Store. This position requires the ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP ) and is expected to recommend changes to accounting-based procedures based upon analysis performed and specialized knowledge. The Associate Accountant will also utilize NetSuite alongside the University System of record, PeopleSoft, to enhance financial tracking and reporting.

Responsibilities


• Review, verify, and process vendor invoices for payment in accordance with university policies and procedures.

• Prepare and process electronic transfers and payments, as well as handle check runs.

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all accounts payable transactions.

• Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

• Vendor Relations: Communicate effectively with vendors to address inquiries and resolve issues related to payments.

• Assist in the preparation and analysis of expense reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with university guidelines.

• Support month-end closing activities, including preparing journal entries and assisting with account reconciliations.

• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and university policies related to accounts payable.

• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the accounts payable function.

• Utilize NetSuite alongside PeopleSoft for enhanced financial tracking and reporting.

Minimum Qualifications


Four years of bookkeeping or accounting experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience), and an understanding of basic accounting principles, mathematical and spreadsheet skills; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.

Problem solving.The ability to work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment. Able to work independently when necessary.Ability to communicate effectively. Accounts payable, data entry, proficiency in Microsoft Office products, and general office experience preferred.PeopleSoft and NetSuite experience preferred.
