Position Overview:

We are hiring an Excavation Field Manager to lead our plumbing excavation division. This is a field-first leadership role (about 90% in the field), overseeing sewer and water line installations and repairs, including trenchless solutions using pneumatic missiles.

You’ll be responsible for managing crews, ensuring job site safety and compliance, and—critically—training and developing your team. We’re looking for a leader who is hands-on, experienced in underground utilities, and passionate about teaching and growing their crew's skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Field Leadership (Primary — 90% of role):

• Lead excavation crews handling sewer, water line, and trenchless repair projects
• Operate heavy equipment (mini-excavators, pneumatic missiles, etc.)
• Ensure projects meet safety, plumbing, and building regulations
• Provide hands-on training and mentorship to crew members
• Oversee job site preparation, trenching, pipe laying, and backfilling
• Troubleshoot issues in the field and provide real-time solutions
• Work closely with office staff to manage scheduling and materials

Administrative (Approx. 10%):

• Report job progress and crew performance
• Help with project planning and equipment maintenance scheduling
• Support hiring, onboarding, and ongoing crew development

Qualifications:

• Proven experience with sewer and water line excavation and repair
• Familiarity with trenchless repair techniques (pneumatic missiles, pipe bursting, etc.)
• Leadership experience in a field environment; training teams is a must
• Ability to operate excavation equipment safely and efficiently
• Strong understanding of OSHA safety standards and local regulations
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
• CDL or equipment certifications a plus
