THE OPPORTUNITY 

The Senior Marketing Manager will demonstrate experience in creative marketing strategy, public relations, consumer research, community engagement, and project management to implement and execute go-to-market strategies that build vibrant communities through both live and digital events and content platforms. Additionally, this talented marketer would be instrumental in driving event ideas and concepts, and increasing awareness and connection with our authors and artists. This role supports Deseret Book and owned brands. 

 

This individual will lead the development and execution of comprehensive marketing strategies and community campaigns. They will apply marketing research to better understand audience behaviors and motivations and use those insights to cultivate customer segments into engaged, loyal communities. This manager will also oversee PR initiatives for these brands, developing media outreach, managing press communications, and identifying opportunities to elevate Deseret Book’s reach within the communities. 

 

The Senior Marketing Manager will collaborate with the Events, Multicultural, and Content and Communities teams, working closely with creative, digital, and brand stakeholders to ensure marketing efforts, community growth, and PR objectives are aligned and impactful. 

Successful candidates will have a deep understanding of the culture and needs of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They will thrive on crafting compelling experiences and messaging, nurturing community connections, and ensuring Deseret Book’s brand promise is realized through events and relationships with audiences across platforms. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: 

 

70% Marketing Strategy & Community Development: Develop marketing strategies and plans, lead research efforts, and manage overall campaign impact and performance. This includes: 

 

  • Lead development and execution of marketing plans for Deseret Book’s community-based brands, initiatives, and events 
  • Conduct and analyze consumer research to understand market trends and audience needs 
  • Create marketing strategies that enhance community growth, engagement, and brand affinity 
  • Manage event and campaign lifecycle in collaboration with cross-functional teams 
  • Identify and pursue community-building partnerships and marketing opportunities 
  • Measure performance (KPIs), including engagement, attendance, growth, and conversion metrics 

 

20% Public Relations: Develop communications and content strategies to drive increased consumer awareness and engagement with our communities, artists, and authors. This includes: 

 

  • Develop and implement public relations strategies for events and community campaigns 
  • Manage press outreach, relationships, and media opportunities 
  • Write and distribute press releases and media kits 
  • Represent Deseret Book’s community and event efforts in public settings as needed 

 

10% Team Leadership & Collaboration: Guide a team and drive strategic collaboration with other leaders. This includes: 

 

  • Lead a marketing specialist and cross-functional team members in executing tactical plans 
  • Foster an environment of creativity, innovation, and data-driven decision making 
  • Provide strategic input to ensure brand alignment across platforms and messaging 

 

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or related field 
  • Minimum of 5+ years' experience in strategic marketing, community building, and/or PR 
  • Proven experience in public relations strategy, media outreach, and reputation management 
  • Experience using marketing research and consumer insights to inform strategy 
  • Strong understanding of multicultural marketing principles, including audience segmentation, messaging, and content creation 
  • Experience in planning, executing, and managing event marketing strategies that drive traffic, sales, and engagement 
  • Ability to track and analyze data to measure campaign performance and identify area for improvement  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Highly organized and self-directed with strong project management abilities 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) 
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) 
  • Deep understanding of the culture and values of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 
  • Comfortable in a collaborative, fast-paced, and mission-driven environment
