Job Summary/Basic Function:


The Military Affiliated Student Center Director leads the university’s partnerships and programs on behalf of its military affiliated and veteran student populations. The director builds, manages, and assesses military affiliated student programming at three Military Affiliated Student Center locations on Ogden Campus, Davis Campus, and Hill Air Force Base. This position is responsible for outreach, enrollment, retention, and student success efforts for military affiliated student populations, including student support services and tuition assistance programs, for active duty, veteran, dependent, and other prospective and current students connected to the military. 

The director leads the strategic development of the university’s partnership with Hill AFB and its Memorandum of Understanding (MOU ) with the Hill Education Office to offer academic programs on base in coordination with academic departments, the Office of Graduate Studies, and the Division of Student Access and Success. The director fosters collaborative relationships with institutional, community, state, and federal stakeholders in support of the university’s Department of Defense MOU . 

The director oversees the TRIO Veterans Upward Bound program, funded by a U.S. Department of Education grant, which serves low-income veterans in a college access mission. The director is charged with grant supervision and compliance as well as the development of all Veterans Upward Bound services, outreach events, and grant project activities. The director is responsible for the recruitment of grant participants, budgeting of grant funds, and oversight of federal documentation for grant compliance, including annual performance reporting. This role will create a strategic vision for WSU -hosted programs and support focused on veterans. 

This position manages compliance with federal and state military and Veterans Affairs regulations and tuition assistance programs. The director serves as lead School Certifying Official (SCO ), overseeing the certification process and ensuring timely and accurate processing of students’ G.I. Bill and veterans tuition assistance. 

The director provides leadership and supervision for an assistant director and team of 6 professional staff in their certifying and student support roles. The director prepares and administers department budgets and manages daily operations. As a member of the Registrar’s Leadership team, this role completes special projects, IT projects, and cross-training as assigned; manages system maintenance for assigned areas; serves on committees at the division, institutional, regional and state levels; and participates in state and national professional organizations and regular professional development. 


Required Qualifications:


Required: 


• Master’s degree in an educational discipline or related field

• Five years of full-time experience working in higher education, such as a Registrar’s Office, academic advising, Military Affiliated or Veterans Services Office, Veterans Upward Bound or TRIO program, student support services, admissions, financial aid/tuition assistance, or related area

• Two or more years of direct supervisory experience

• Experience with military affiliated student support services, grant programs, or tuition assistance programs

• Experience building strategic initiatives, outreach efforts, and collaborative partnerships

• Strong technical fluency, including experience using a Student Information System such as Ellucian Banner, reporting tools, and a degree audit tool like Ellucian DegreeWorks (CatTracks)

• Demonstrated understanding of federal and state Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense policies and procedures

• Experience working with first-generation, low-income, physically disabled, or other special populations

• Demonstrated commitment to educational access and student success

• Spanish-language proficiency or fluency
