JOB TITLE – Prep Cook

DEPARTMENT – The Garden Restaurant at Temple Square

REPORTS TO – Kitchen Manager/Assistant Manager

SUMMARY 

The Prep Cook is responsible for preparing ingredients and supporting kitchen operations to ensure seamless service and high-quality dishes. This full-time position involves following recipes, maintaining prep stations, and adhering to food safety and sanitation standards. The Prep Cook plays a crucial role in setting up the kitchen for success and supporting the culinary team during service.

JOB ENVIRONMENT

Works indoors in a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant environment. Must be comfortable working with sharp tools, hot surfaces, and kitchen equipment. Requires standing for extended periods and working evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

SKILLS, EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS 

·       Previous kitchen or prep experience preferred but not required

·       Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation procedures

·       Ability to follow recipes and written/verbal instructions accurately

·       Strong time management and organizational skills

·       Team player with a positive attitude and willingness to learn

·       Adherence to a professional appearance, hygiene, and grooming policy

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

·       Prepares ingredients including washing, chopping, measuring, and portioning according to recipes and standards

·       Maintains cleanliness and organization of prep areas, tools, and storage areas

·       Labels, dates, and stores food properly to ensure freshness and minimize waste

·       Follows all safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper food handling and equipment usage

·       Assists line cooks and kitchen team as needed during service

·       Participates in opening and closing duties as assigned

·       Performs other duties as assigned by management

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS:

              $17.00/hr. - $18.00/hr. This range is inclusive of multiple job levels. Salary to be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to evaluation of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with market data.
