Position Summary
The General Superintendent is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing multiple Superintendents and ensuring the successful execution of heavy civil and mainline pipe projects. This individual will provide strategic direction, ensure operational efficiency, and uphold safety, quality, and productivity standards across all job sites. The role requires a highly experienced construction professional with a deep understanding of excavation, utilities, earthwork, and mainline infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Oversight
Supervise, mentor, and support multiple Superintendents across various project sites.
Ensure project teams adhere to schedules, budgets, and company policies.
Act as a liaison between field operations and the executive team to align project goals with company objectives.
Project Management & Execution
Oversee and coordinate heavy civil and mainline pipe construction activities to ensure efficient workflows.
Review project schedules, resolve delays, and implement strategies for on-time completion.
Conduct site visits to assess progress, quality, and adherence to safety and environmental regulations.
Safety & Compliance:
Promote and enforce company safety policies, ensuring all crews follow OSHA, MSHA, and industry safety regulations.
Participate in safety audits, accident investigations, and corrective action implementation.
Lead by example in fostering a culture of accountability and proactive safety measures.
Quality Control & Productivity:
Ensure work meets or exceeds industry standards, specifications, and customer expectations.
Monitor labor, equipment, and material utilization to maximize efficiency and profitability.
Provide troubleshooting and problem-solving support for field teams.
Stakeholder & Client Relations:
Collaborate with clients, engineers, and inspectors to ensure smooth project execution.
Facilitate effective communication between the field and office staff.
Assist in project planning, estimating, and value engineering efforts.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
10+ years of experience in heavy civil construction, with a strong emphasis on mainline pipe, utilities, and earthwork.
5+ years of experience as a Superintendent, overseeing multiple crews.
Proven ability to manage multiple job sites and Superintendents simultaneously.
Extensive knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry best practices.
Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
Deep understanding of construction safety regulations and compliance requirements.
Proficiency in reading blueprints, plans, and project specifications.
Preferred:
Experience with GPS machine control and modern construction technology.
Background in estimating, scheduling, and cost control.
Familiarity with construction management software and reporting tools.
