Crew members at Alpine Forestry work as a team to execute forestry and arbor projects on private or public lands according to predetermined project prescriptions. They assist in the safe and proper operation and maintenance of all tools and equipment including hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and heavy machinery.

This position is physically and mentally demanding, the work is strenuous and complex, and it requires a high level of personal commitment. The workstation and project sites are located primarily in the Park City area, but the position may require travel throughout the State of Utah and surrounding region.

Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a 4-8 person chainsaw crew to accomplish various types of land management projects. 
  • Adhere to Alpine Forestry safety standards and promote a safety culture among fellow crew members, including the proper use of PPE, tools, and equipment.
  • Perform chainsaw operations, including brushing, felling, limbing, and bucking.
  • Manage slash removal, including building and burning slash piles, chipping, and hauling.
  • Maintain timely attendance and productivity.
  • Perform minor equipment repairs and maintenance, as necessary.

Typical Forestry and Arborist Operations:

  • Tree trimming and removals
  • Brushing and vegetation thinning
  • Deadfall cleanup
  • Chipping and green waste hauling
  • Slash pile building
  • Pile burning
  • Trail maintenance
  • Noxious weed removal
  • Reseeding
  • Mapping and monitoring
  • Wildfire assignments 

Tools and Equipment:

  • Chainsaws of different types
  • Pole saws and brushcutters
  • Tree climbing gear
  • Rigging and winching gear
  • Site safety equipment (signs, cones, barricades)
  • Chippers

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Experience with chainsaws and other industry related equipment (preferred).
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and create effective working relationships.
  • Ability and desire to perform strenuous outdoor work on rough terrain in a variety of inclement weather conditions (e.g. rain, heat, cold) for 8 to 12 hours per day.
  • Quick and able learner with a strong work ethic and a keen eye for details.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in potentially hazardous situations.
  • Dedication to workplace safety, and ability to utilize safety policies and procedures.

Training:

Provided Required Training:

  • Basic Wildland Firefighter Courses (S-130 / S-190 / ICS-100 / L-180) 
  • Pack test and fire refresher (RT-130)
  • CPR and First Aid
  • Orientation on company equipment, procedures, and expectations

Additional Training Available:

  • NWCG wildfire and prescribed fire classes and task books
  • Advanced chainsaw and felling techniques
  • FAA drone pilot
  • Mapping and technology (ArcGIS)
  • Tree climbing 
  • Climber rescue
  • Rigging techniques
  • Wilderness First Responder

Additional Information

Compensation, Term, and Benefits:

  • $17 - $22 per hour
  • Overtime rate over 40 hours in a week
  • 6 month desired commitment, May - October with options for extending
  • 2 paid holidays
