Job Description

The Truck Driver will perform a variety of routine and complex transportation work in driving and coordinating transportation plans for various projects. Truck Drivers typically drive diesel trucks that haul tractor trailers with side dumps. They are usually not required to haul doubles, but there is the potential for that type of hauling. This position will also be required to do transport hauling of equipment. In that instance, they would be using a low boy trailer, flat bed, or RGN. Truck Drivers are also responsible for their trucks and all equipment associated with the trucks, ensuring they are kept clean, safe, and ready to work.

Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Before starting a shift, drivers are to check the general conditions of the truck, fill out the daily operator’s inspection report, and turn it in to shop management
  • At the end of each shift, drivers are to clean the truck windows, sweep or blow cabs clean, and secure the truck
  • Record any miscellaneous repairs, fuel, oil, and lubricants used on logs
  • Drive trucks in a safe and efficient manner, always being respectful of other drivers and vehicles
  • Driver is responsible for all documentation on board the truck, ensuring it is current and in order. This includes licensing, inspections, permits, placards, and any other documentation (i.e., GVW decals, USDOT numbers, etc.)
  • Turn in completed time cards, packing slips, invoices, receipts, and haul sheets with necessary documentation to the Foreman, Superintendent, or Project Manager to account for costs
  • Ensure the legal weights on their truck
  • Hauling, hoisting, and securing equipment or materials
  • Ensuring that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed; bringing problems to the attention of the Safety Director or HR Administrator

Qualifications

  • Must have valid state commercial driver’s license (CDL) or government issued ID
  • Must be legally qualified to work in the U.S. with appropriate documentation (E-Verify)
  • Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work
  • 1 year of relative experience 
  • Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and defensive driving
  • Ability to safely drive various vehicles
  • Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
