Job Description

The Building Automation Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and completion of building automation systems (BAS) projects. This role involves managing the entire project lifecycle, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and coordinating with internal teams, clients, and contractors to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget. The ideal candidate will have strong project management skills, technical knowledge of BAS, and experience in managing construction or building systems projects.

Responsibilities

Project Planning & Coordination:

  • Lead and manage building automation projects from inception to completion.
  • Develop detailed project plans, including scope, schedule, and resource allocation.
  • Coordinate with clients, internal teams (engineering, procurement, sales), and external contractors to align goals and timelines.
  • Establish project objectives and success criteria with stakeholders.

Technical Oversight:

  • Provide technical direction to ensure the building automation systems meet design specifications and client requirements.
  • Review and approve system designs, drawings, and specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Facilitate commissioning and testing of BAS, ensuring proper installation and functionality.

Budgeting & Financial Management:

  • Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring financial targets are met.
  • Track project costs and ensure cost-efficient resource utilization.

Risk & Issue Management:

  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Resolve issues that may arise during project execution, including technical challenges, contractor delays, or supply chain disruptions.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices at the job site.

Communication & Reporting:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, keeping them informed about project progress and addressing concerns.
  • Provide regular updates to senior management on project status, including milestone tracking and project performance.
  • Prepare detailed project documentation, including meeting notes, reports, and final project summaries.

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Lead and mentor project team members, including engineers, technicians, and subcontractors.
  • Facilitate collaboration across multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback to project staff and contractors.

Post-Project Support:

  • Oversee the commissioning, testing, and handover process, ensuring the building automation system operates as designed.
  • Manage the preparation of post-installation documentation, including system manuals and training materials for end-users.
  • Provide ongoing support to clients during the warranty period and ensure successful a project closeout.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Systems, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in building automation systems (BAS) or related project management.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, lighting, access control, energy management, and related systems.
  • Familiarity with BAS platforms (e.g., ABB, Strato, Carrier Tridium).
  • Proficient in project management tools and software (e.g., MS Project, AutoCAD).
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Additional Information

Working Conditions:

  • Travel to client sites for project oversight and team coordination.
  • Ability to work in construction environments, including mechanical rooms and rooftops.
